Dear BOR members, I understand from BOD chairman Prabhakar Patil that His Holiness Dr. Shivananda Shivacharya Swamiji , Hiremath, Tumkur is coming for the 2006 VSNA conference. He is willing to visit various chapters after the conference and have Pravachana and religious discussions. He will buy his own Air ticket that allows him to travel inside USA. We have to work out the logistics and let him know the details to help him buy the ticket accordingly. Prabhakar Patil is looking for BOR to take this responsibility and help Conference organizers. Swamiji may be coming alone.

Swamiji is not new to USA. He has come to VSNA conference twice before. He speaks Good English in simple sentences and communicates well with youngsters. He is a scholar in Kannada and very friendly and easy to mingle with, more importantly, he understands our issue here in USA.

Request to all BOR members:

1) Please confirm if you are willing to host the swamiji and take responsibility to arranging a Pravachana meeting for your chapter members. This can be in a house / basement.

2) If so, what is the most suitable date and how many days you or your chapter members can host the swamiji.

IF NOT,

3) Please check up with your chapter president and other members of your chapter, if any member is willing to host the swamiji.

Let us set a target date of June 7th to give a reply to Prabhakar Patil.

The whole intent is to make the best use of the visit and availability of the Swamiji during and after the conference.

Please call me at 248 305 5188 if you need any more information. Thanks.

A Lingayats code of conduct

Veera Shaivism's means of attainment depends on the panchāchāra (five codes of conduct) and ashtāvarana (eight shields) to protect the body as the abode of the Lord. The five codes are:

* Lingāchāra - daily worship of the personal Sivalinga
* Sadāchāra - attention to vocation and duty
* Sivāchāra - acknowledging Siva as the one God and equality among members
* Bhrityāchāra - humility towards all creatures
* Ganāchāra (defense of the community and its tenets)

The eight protections are: Guru, Linga, Jangama (wandering monk), Pāduka (water from bathing the Linga or guru's feet), Prasāda (sacred offering), Vibhuti (holy ash), Rudrāksha (holy beads) and Mantra (Namah Sivaya).
