Picnic 2005
Hello,
Here is something to think about over the weekend. Proposed date for our picnic is April 16. City of Allen has a nice new park. It's called Celebration Park
Amenities include: 15 soccer fields with one large lighted field, two 300-foot baseball fields, soccer pavilion with restroom and concession areas, large multi-sport court, kidMania playground and spray ground complex, horseshoe and washer courts, picnic amenities, ornamental lake with fountains, lakeside pavilion for large gatherings and outdoor performances, and hike and bike trail.
Check out the following links. We have been there a couple of times (People living in Plano/Allen might have). Kids would really love the KidMania playground and spray ground complex. Spray ground is actually closed during winter months but will reopen on April 15. There are playgrounds, a small lake with fountains, pavilions and restrooms.

VSNA 2005 Convention Announcement
Dear fellow Veerashaivas,
As our convention preparations are moving rapidly and the day is fast
approaching, we request your assistance in spreading the word to all your
chapter members.
You may have already received the invitational brochure outlining our tentative
plans for the convention. We are in the process of finalizing our registration
package as well.
Mean while to give the head start, I am enclosing (word document) the youth
workshop/competition details to share with your chapter members. This is
something new that we are organizing this year to encourage youth participation
and utilize the platform in which the individuals might have strengths.
This is a 3 page write up by our youth workshop coordinator, Madan Kittur.
Thank you very much for forwarding this e-mail to your members.
Regards,

Mahashivaratri - 2005
The VSNA, Texas Chapter met on March 12th at Shiva and Geeta Patil's home in Fort Worth on March 12th, 2005.
Thanks to Shiva and Geeta for hosting this.
The linga pooja was lead by Roopali Magavi. After that everyone participated in the Abhishekam.
After lunch, we discussed several topics:
1. Organizational changes
Dr. Guru Motgi served as the VSNA-Texas chapter president from 2003-2005. He handed over this responsibility to Basavaraj Patil. Additionally Mrs. Mamatha Prakash was unanimously chosen as the Vice-President of the Texas chapter. Mr. Shiva Patil will continue as the Treasurer and Mr. Vijay Patil will also continue in his role as the Secretary. Ms. Mangala Patil has been chosen as the Youth President of the Texas chapter.
2. Accounts and funds for 2005
Mr. Shiva Patil provided an update on the accounts for 2004. He will be sending the details to the mailing list soon. We are now in the process of collecting the membership funds for 2005. We have decided that instead of $100, we will ask for $135.00. We will use $35.00 to enroll the families in the central VSNA chapter. If you are already a member of the central VSNA, then you only need to send a check for $100 to Shiva Patil. We dicsussed about whether we should have a budget for food. However after much discussion we agreed that Shiva Patil will keep the spending on catering within limits.
3. Charitable activities
We discussed how we as a chapter could make a difference. We discussed the possibility of contributing to come deserving Lingayat childrens education in India. Sunil Magavi said that he will provide some information on how this can be done.
4. Basava Jayanthi Celebration
We will celebrate Basava Jayanthi at the DFW Hindu temple on May 14th. Given that one of the tenets of the religion is Dasoha, we will serve lunch on that day to about 200~300 people at the temple. Details of the plans will be made available later.
5. Picnic
We will have a VSNA, Texas chapter picnic in the 2nd or 3rd week of April. Mr. Kalyan Kumar will identify the location and inform us of the details.

Vachanas
1. 'Say not '-
This day or another day;
Today itself is the day for a sharana!
Today is the day sacred for a sharana!
Sacred is the day when a sharana remembers our lord Kudala Sangama without forgetting.'
2. ‘When a sharana sleeps, it is meditation;
When a sharana is awake, it is Shivaratri;
Where a sharana walks, it is place of pilgrimage
What a sharana speaks, is the word of Shiva
The body of sharana itself is the abode of Lord Kudala Sangama.'
